Horsepower Technologies Enlists Mack Molding to Help Horses
Company’s Revolutionary Technology, Industry Experience & Unique Location
Leveraged in Fight Against Equine Lameness
ARLINGTON, Vt. (August 21, 2018) – Horsepower Technologies™ Inc. (Horsepower), a Massachusetts-based healthcare and technology company dedicated to combating equine lameness, has contracted Mack Molding to manufacture its groundbreaking product, FastTrack™, the first rehabilitative orthotic device for horses.
Last month, Horsepower commercially launched FastTrack™, which is designed to significantly reduce both rehabilitation time and incidence of re-injury following tendon and ligament trauma.
“Mack was a natural fit for Horsepower’s mission of helping horses,” Horsepower President and CEO Mouli Ramani said of the Arlington, Vt.-based custom plastics molder and supplier of contract manufacturing services. “We are proud to say our parts are assembled and shipped from within the U.S. to the horse’s location – it means that within 48 hours of placing an order a veterinarian is able to begin the treatment process. For an animal in need getting therapy right away instead of waiting weeks, this can make all the difference.”
FastTrack™’s unique design allows the device to be customized for each individual horse, providing maximal support of musculoskeletal structure. Renowned veterinarians including U.S. Olympic Equestrian Team doctors Dr. Tim Ober, Dr. Rick Mitchell and Dr. Brendan Furlong have been consulted throughout the development of the product, supporting the technological advancement and enhanced treatment that FastTrack™ enables. With hundreds of possible partners available to manufacture the product, Horsepower sought Mack’s vertically integrated contract manufacturing services to streamline the process and ensure its equine patients can more safely and more quickly resume exercise without exacerbating their injuries.
Mack is currently fulfilling orders for FastTrack™ and the FastTrack™ Sizing and Heater Kits. The Sizing Kit enables the veterinarian to take measurements of the horse’s limb and order the correct FastTrack™ size. The Heater Kit is a portable heater used to form the orthotic device to the exact contours of the horse’s limbs.
“As an experienced medical device manufacturer, the veterinary market presents a unique opportunity for the Company to expand upon its experience in the space,” added Mack Molding President Jeff Somple. “Like any medical product, Horsepower’s device has to work right the first time – the horses and the people who care for them depend on it. Horsepower has a great mantra, Soundness Through Science, and the team has put almost a decade of research and development to help the nearly one third of all sport- and race-horses that suffer from lameness. Now Mack is happy to add the strength of a 98-year-old business to the cause.”

Meet the Interns: Brad Williams
Brad Williams, of Lake George, N.Y., is a senior at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., and a 2018 Mack summer intern. Brad has been working in the Company’s purchasing department with Supply Chain Manager Eric White and Medical Supply Chain Manager John Preiser.
“The goal of any ‘good’ internship is one that provides value to both employer and employee. I think we accomplished that with Brad this summer,” Eric said. “It was clear from the beginning that his curriculum prepared him for many of the day to day challenges we face. We had a huge amount of new product introduction activities this summer, and Brad played a significant role in helping out the purchasing department.”
It is a perfect fit for Brad, who is majoring in global supply chain management. He has spent the summer researching current topics and issues regarding supply chains, as well as filling out component quality requirements (CQR) paperwork, cutting purchase orders (POs) and debt memos.
“The work I’ve been doing this summer relates directly to my major,” Brad noted. “I now understand the importance of staying up to date and well versed on any findings in my field. If you don’t, you begin to fall behind.”
Brad found out about Mack from the Company’s website and has been enjoying his time in Southern Vermont.
“Mack really cares about the work its interns are doing,” he said. “I’ve been working on projects that are giving me real experience and are expanding my knowledge. I’m also glad I get to spend my free time hiking and swimming, and playing my guitar.”
After graduating in December of this year, Brad plans to work in a supply chain buyer position.
